X-Men TV Series Legion Finds Its Lead As The Cast Grows

Feb 4, 2016

FX has absolutely been killing it when it comes to original programming. From American Horror Story, to Fargo, Louie, Baskets and The Bastard Executioner the network has no problems with taking risks and airing shows that may not be considered “mainstream.” They continue this trend as the man behind Fargo, Noah Hawley is set to bring the X-Men universe to FX with Legion.

In the comics Legion is David Charles Haller and is the mutant son of X-Men founder and leader Professor Charles Xavier. Unfortunately unlike his father Legion isn’t exactly the heroic type. He suffers from server mental illness and dissociative identity disorder, you see Legion is able to absorb the personalities of people around him while also manifesting any super human powers they may possess. Image Superman, but if each of his powers was controlled by a separate personality.

As long as they stick to the source material this appears to be a concept that will fit nicely in the FX line up. And while it does seem out there it appears FX is serious about this series as they have cast their lead roles. Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey) has been chosen as the shows lead and struggling to come to grips with his powers and personalities, while Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Rec, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) has been cast as Lenny, David’s friend, an addict who always seems to have a sunny disposition on life. Some Fargo alums have also been cast as Jean Smart (Fargo, The McCarthys) and Rachel Keller (Supernatural, Fargo) will play Melanie, David’s therapist and Syd a street smart female who that still believe in happily ever after.

Legion is set to be another huge risk for FX as even though it plays in the X-Men universe, it does so in it’s darkest corners. But if anyone can handle Legion and its weirdness it Noah Hawley and the crew at FX.
