The Scarab has found its host: Fan favorite Xolo Maridueña will star in the upcoming DC/HBO Max film Blue Beetle
The Parenthood and Cobra Kai star will portray Jaime Reyes, the third character to assume the Blue Beetle mantle. The Wrap first broke the news that Maridueña was in talks to portray Jaime, while The Hollywood Reporter’s Aaron Couch later confirmed the news.
In the comics, Reyes is a teenager who finds the Scarab and becomes the third Blue Beetle. It’s currently unknown if Dan Garrett and Ted Kord, the first two Blue Beetles, will appear in the movie.
Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer and Angel Manuel Soto will write and direct the movie, respectively. The film’s premiere date is still unknown, but production will begin in early 2022.
