Zachary Levi Cast as the Title Hero in DC Comics ‘Shazam!’

After months of searching, DC Comics has announced (via Variety) that Chuck and Thor: The Dark World star Zachary Levi will play the title hero in their upcoming feature film Shazam! Others in the mix for the role included Zane Holtz, Billy Magnussen, and Jake McDorman. As well as we at Omega Underground discovering an audition tape from Arrow star Parker Young reading for the role.

This is technically only one half of the star of the film since the studio has yet to find their child star for Billy Batson. Batson when he screams “Shazam!” is gifted with the powers of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury. While still mentally a kid he is transformed into an adult body at the power level of Superman.

Production is expected to begin this January with it hitting theaters April 2019
