Director Zack Snyder is returning to film after his extended hiatus with ‘Army of the Dead,’ and now we know when filming starts: July 15th. It will shoot in New Mexico, while other locations could be Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Snyder spent several years with Warner Bros. kickstarting the DCEU, with ‘Man of Steel,’ ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ and ‘Justice League. Other films of his include ‘300,’ ‘Sucker Punch,’ and ‘Watchmen.’
After the tragic death of his daughter, he took a break from film, but now he’s back. If this new film sounds familiar, that’s because it was originally in development as a follow-up to ‘Dawn of the Dead.’ That film was by writer James Gunn (‘Guardians of the Galaxy,’ ‘The Suicide Squad’), and was Snyder’s directorial debut. This time, Joby Harold (‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’) is writing ‘Army of the Dead,’ from a story by Snyder.
The premise of the zombie-thriller is below:
“The adventure is set amid a zombie outbreak in Las Vegas, during which a man assembles a group of mercenaries to take the ultimate gamble, venturing into the quarantined zone to pull off the greatest heist ever attempted.”
Further, Dave Bautista is the first cast member to join, setting up a killer year for himself. He is popular for his role as Drax in the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films. Last year he was in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ reprising Drax. This year, he will be co-starring with Kumail Nanjiani in ‘Stuber,’ releasing July 12. He will next be on-set for Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune,’ releasing November 20, 2020 and could be part of the cast for James Gunn’s ‘The Suicide Squad,’ releasing August 6, 2021.
‘Army of the Dead’ will release on Netflix, but there is no date as of now.
