There are many miles of pages between Gotham and Riverdale. What would make our two lovable villains take such a long journey? Nothing less than environmental justice, of course! Poison Ivy hears about Hiram Lodge’s plan to build a “free” college over Sweetwater Swamp. Our little flytrap is having none of this. With her buddy, Harley Quinn, they come out of hiding and make their way to the world of Archie.

There are so many ways that a crossover can go wrong. Most commonly, it is when one side loses its individuality. I understand that sometimes art styles have to change, but there is little reason to change the personalities of the characters. Thankfully that is not something that happens within these pages. These two Gotham City sirens fit right in with the students of Riverdale High. Laura Braga brings the underbelly of Gotham right into the oh-sugar-sugar-ness of Riverdale without either one losing its essence. It does help that Harley and Ivy are not DC’s darkest characters. The writing of Marc Andreyko and Paul Dini help in this respect as well. You can tell that no character’s voice is lost.

This is a great start to the 6-part crossover. I cannot wait to see what kind of hi-jinks Harley and Ivy get into to save the swamp.
