‘Captain Marvel 2’ is finally getting some traction, as writer Megan McDonnell is in final talks to pen the screenplay. She is both a staff editor and story editor on the upcoming ‘WandaVision’ Disney+ series, premiering later this year.
Meanwhile, the first film’s directors Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck will not return to helm the sequel. However, they are not leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe for good. The duo are in talks to direct a “possible” Disney+ series.
Now, the specific wording of “possible” from The Hollywood Reporter suggests a series that has not been announced, so it may not be ‘She-Hulk.’ Therefore, what else could it be? Well, back in August last year, we at The GWW reported that a ‘Miss America’ Disney series is in the works. Perhaps this is the series Boden and Fleck are being courted to direct.
Moreover, here is a morsel of info regarding the premise:
“The new story will move the setting from the 1990s of the original movie to the present day.”
Further, Marvel Studios is looking for a female filmmaker to direct ‘Captain Marvel 2.’ No word on who could be up for the gig.
THR also suggests a 2022 release is possible, but I would not put too much stock in that particular tidbit. With the forthcoming ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,’ I think that could land the July 29, 2022 date instead of ‘Captain Marvel 2.’
