‘Jurassic World 3’ is going to be a slew of familiar faces coming together to handle dinosaurs in the real world. While Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will still be leading the franchise, they will be joined by former ‘Jurassic Park’ leads Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern. Now, Jake Johnson and Omar Sy are the two latest ‘Jurassic’ alums to join the sequel. They will be reprising their roles of Lowery and Barry, respectively.
Collider reported that both have signed onto director Colin Trevorrow’s trilogy capper. It seems that Trevorrow is going for all hands on deck to deal with the monumental issues at hand. The last movie, ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ offered a ‘Planet of the Apes’ type twist where the dinosaurs are now off the island and living on the mainland amongst the humans. Naturally, that will cause some issues.
With such a stacked cast at hand, it is unknown how large Johnson’s and Sy’s roles will be. Hopefully they have something of substance to do though, and aren’t just thrown in there to fulfill contractual obligations. A small but powerful role is better than a useless one.
As long as the original ‘Jurassic Park’ trio share screen time, while being more substantial than Goldblum’s underwhelming cameo in ‘Fallen Kingdom,’ then the rest of the cast is just gravy. Whatever Sy and Johnson’s roles are, hopefully it adds to the other character’s journeys.
Like ‘Star Wars,’ the franchise returned in 2015 with a legacy sequel to a movie from a bearded visionary director. Unlike ‘Star Wars’ though, Trevorrow will actually be able to complete this trilogy.
While the second film was a bit convoluted and forced, it is still exciting to see how this trilogy will end, and how it will continue in the future. ‘The Impossible’s J.A. Bayona directed that film, while Trevorrow was prepping for ‘Star Wars.’ Now he’s back to finish what he started.
Moreover, the screenplay is from Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael (‘Pacific Rim: Uprising,’ ‘Battle at Big Rock’), with a story by Trevorrow and ‘Jurassic World’ alum Derek Connolly (‘Kong: Skull Island,’ ‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’).
Additionally, ‘Jurassic World’ cinematographer John Schwartzman and ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ visual effects supervisor David Vickery are also coming back, with ‘Gravity’ editor Mark Sanger and ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ production designer Kevin Jenkins also onboard.
We at the GWW can report that filming will take place in Vancouver, Canada, from February 24th to March 6th. Also, principal photography will wrap this July, with other shooting locations consisting of Hawaii, Malta, and Pinewood Studios, England.
To hold you over until this forthcoming sequel, Trevorrow co-wrote and directed a short film called ‘Battle At Big Rock.’ It’s worth checking out!
Universal will release the untitled third ‘Jurassic World’ film on June 11, 2021.
