Colin Trevorrow’s ‘Jurassic World 3’ Will See the Return of Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, & Laura Dern

Sep 25, 2019

The original ‘Jurassic Park’ movie is one of the best movies ever made. Even by today’s standards, it still holds up in every way. A lot of that has to do with the charismatic cast of Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum. All three actors have returned to various sequels, but all of them haven’t been on screen together since the original. However, that is about to change with the impending ‘Jurassic World 3.’

Deadline reports that all three original leads will return to star in ‘Jurassic World 3’ alongside Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Out of the three, Goldblum was in the last scene of ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom,’ in a quick (and squandered) cameo. Hopefully the three of them have more substantial roles than they did in their past appearances.

‘Fallen Kingdom’ left the franchise in a unique state, with dinosaurs now living in the wild among humans. So naturally, Dr. Alan Grant (Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Dern), and Ian Malcolm (Goldblum) would notice, and they are one of the few with experience in that. Because of that, it feels like this makes sense for the story, instead of feeling like forced fan service.

Moreover, original ‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow is returning to helm this sequel, taking the reins back from ‘The Impossible’s J.A. Bayona, who did the previous film in the new trilogy. The screenplay is from Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael  (‘Pacific Rim: Uprising,’ ‘Battle at Big Rock’), with a story by Trevorrow and ‘Jurassic World’ alum Derek Connolly (‘Kong: Skull Island,’ ‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’).

Additionally, ‘Jurassic World’ cinematographer John Schwartzman is also coming back, with filming set for next spring.

With the original ‘Park’ trio returning, it makes the sequel much more intriguing. It’ll be interesting if the original kids from 1993 movie will return as well. If you can’t wait for ‘Jurassic World 3,’ there is a short film to hold you over called ‘Battle at Big Rock.’ It is unknown if the cast of that short, consisting of Andre Holland and Natalie Martinez, will appear in this next installment.

‘Battle at Big Rock’ is available to watch, for free, below:

Trevorrow seems to be tying all of the movies together with this seemingly last chapter of the the franchise. It was a job he was tasked with for ‘Star Wars,’ before creative differences took him off ‘Episode IX.’ It will be great to see Dern, Neill and Goldblum back on screen together. Let’s just hope their appearances won’t be for nothing.

Universal will release the untitled third ‘Jurassic World’ film on June 11, 2021.
