Across all genres geeks of all kinds have one thing in common, they love to collect. There is a lot of pride that comes with a geek’s collection and some coveting when it comes to other geek’s memorabilia. A geek’s collection is something you want to concentrate on when trying to find the perfect present for your geek.
As I mentioned, geeks come from all walks of life and are interested in all different kinds of genres. I cannot speak for anyone else’s interests, because it is so wide ranging. What I can do is tell you about the items I like to collect.
If you shop for me, at the top of my list will always be Lego, particularly Star Wars Lego. There are hundreds of different Star Wars sets. If you add in the old sets, then there are close to a thousand sets. You will run out of room before you run out of sets you are interested in. Having said that, I will say that the new Star Wars sets are not coming out like they used to. Because of this, my Lego interests have wandered into other areas. I have collected most of the Space Lego sets, the Voltron set and a Lego Dot Art Iron Man. For Christmas, I’m hoping to get the Batman Tumbler, Batwing, or Transformers Optimus Prime.
Yes, Lego are expensive. There are several other ways to add to a Geeks collection. For me, I love t-shirts. All my t-shirts have something to do with my geekdoms.
I’m old school, (besides being old) I prefer to collect my anime and movies on disc. Streaming is convenient, but the services don’t always keep your favorites in rotation. With my collection of blu-rays and DVDs I can watch any of my anime when I want and I can loan them out to fellow geeks.
The same goes for books. Books are wonderful ways to add to someone’s collection. For me it is something of pride to be able to say, “This entire wall in my ‘Geek Cave’ is my manga collection.” It is a lot more impressive to show that wall, instead of an e-reader with a couple dozen files of books.
Finally, the last thing you could purchase for me, which your geek might like, are models and figurines from my favorite ‘Geekdom’. I have several models of ships from Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and The Expanse. I would have gone further with that collection, but the company that produced them went out of business. It happens with collectibles but that’s all right. I love what I have.
It is that time of the year when you will be looking for that perfect present for the geek in your life. The gift really doesn’t have to be perfect, just has to do with their interests. The fact you spent the time finding something that has to do with their ‘Geekdom’, will mean the world to them.
