What Is the Latest Ahsoka Season 2 Mortis Update?
Ahsoka Season 2 premieres on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, continuing the Star Wars Ahsoka story after the first season left Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren stranded on Peridea. Dave Filoni has confirmed that Mortis mythology will matter in the second season, while Thrawn, Anakin Skywalker, and Baylan Skoll remain important to the wider story. The release date is set, but the exact form of the Mortis Gods is still unknown.
Why Will Mortis Matter in Ahsoka Season 2?
Dave Filoni told Empire that Mortis is “definitely a thing” in Season 2. He then explained the larger question behind the storyline: “What we’re dealing with is: are you going to believe in this, or not? And what is the danger if it’s real? And how are you going to prioritize your goals here?” Filoni added, “What would a Jedi do, versus what would a regular person do? Those things come up through the course of the season.”
- Core theme: Filoni connects Mortis to belief, danger, priorities, and how a Jedi reacts when ancient Force ideas become real.
- Power matters: He also said, “A lot of it is about power, and what you do with power, and how you wield power.”
- Lucas connection: Filoni said, “It was so surprising when George [Lucas] created these archetype god characters.”
- Returning lead: Rosario Dawson returns as the former Jedi Ahsoka, while Natasha Liu Bordizzo returns as Sabine Wren.
- Anakin returns: Hayden Christensen is back as Anakin Skywalker, whose Clone Wars history gives him a direct Mortis connection.
- Important limit: Filoni has not confirmed that the Father, Daughter, or Son physically return.
How Do Baylan, Thrawn and the New Republic Fit Into Ahsoka Season 2?
The first season left Baylan near giant Mortis statues on Peridea, while Thrawn and Ezra Bridger returned to the main galaxy. That split creates two major tracks: the Force mystery around Ahsoka and Baylan, and the growing threat Thrawn poses to the New Republic.
- Baylan changes actors: Rory McCann replaces the late Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll.
- Military threat: Lars Mikkelsen returns as Grand Admiral Thrawn, whose return leaves a vulnerable galaxy facing an emerging threat.
- Ezra is home: Eman Esfandi returns as Ezra Bridger after escaping Peridea.
- Hera returns: Mary Elizabeth Winstead is expected back as Hera Syndulla alongside other cast members.
- Story remains open: Filoni has not confirmed how Baylan’s search connects to Mortis, how Ahsoka leaves Peridea, or when the two storylines meet.
The season also keeps the wider Star Wars story moving beyond Peridea. Filoni has not revealed whether the New Republic conflict, Mortis mystery, and Anakin’s role will collide, so those connections should remain labeled as speculation.
Final Thoughts
Ahsoka Season 2 pushes the Star Wars franchise deeper into live-action Force mythology while continuing events from Rebels and the first series. Fans can watch the upcoming episodes on Disney+, with Ahsoka, Sabine, Baylan, Thrawn, and Anakin continuing their journey across space. The next teaser trailer should reveal more about Mortis, Peridea, and the New Republic conflict.
