Amethyst learns some brutal truths about her house and discovers a secret that will shatter her world.
Amethyst’ memories of her family and her kingdom are the product of the people she trusted the most and the stories about the reputation and love of her house are what have given her strength as she travels to find help for her missing people. Unfortunately, her appeal to House Sapphire will bring her to the reality that the reputation of her kingdom is not what she was brought up to believe. A truth she will learn quickly as she and her companion Phoss are rudely ejected from the kingdom and have to find an escape on a ship leaving the harbor.
After finding the time to catch her breath, Amy will find herself in the company of a young lady who convinces her to tap into her powers to find the answers to her missing subjects. What she finds is not only the answer to her prayers, but a discovery that will change her world.
The second issue of this series is an improvement on the first. Amy Reeder establishes the conflicts well, both internal and external. Amethyst is given some personal struggles and a mission beyond finding her people. She is beginning to see a larger world beyond the one she has been deluded into believing and that revelation makes for some interesting drama. The story is paced really well and the characters, especially Phoss, have agency and personality.
Reeder’s art is fantastic. All of the characters are sublimely expressive and the action is done really well. There are some great looking panels throughout and the art brings energy and life to the story.
