Exclusive: ‘Downsizing’s Jim Taylor To Rewrite Live-Action ‘Curious George’ Adaptation

Mar 24, 2020

We at The GWW have learned that Universal’s live-action ‘Curious George’ film adaptation will have script rewrites from Jim Taylor. (Yes, that’s a thing you probably forgot or didn’t know was happening.)

Taylor is a frequent collaborator with director Alexander Payne, having written ‘Election,’ ‘Sideways,’ and ‘Downsizing.’ He is no stranger to franchises, as he also wrote ‘Jurassic Park III.’

Curious George is the main character of the eponymous children’s books, as well as animated movies and shows, written by Margret and H. A. Rey. George was brought from his home in Africa by the character named The Man with The Yellow Hat. They are best friends and they live together in the city and the country.

Deadline previously reported that Andrew Adamson (‘The Chronicles of Narnia,’ ‘Shrek’) was in negotiations to direct, and as of now, it looks like he’s signed his deal.

Brian Grazer (‘Empire,’ ‘Arrested Development’) and Ron Howard (‘The Simpsons,’ ‘This Is Us’)  will produce for Imagine Entertainment, alongside David Kirschner (‘Chucky,’ ‘The Addams Family’) and Jon Shapiro (‘Curious George’). Imagine’s Erica Huggins (‘The Dark Tower,’ ‘In the Heart of the Sea’) will also be producing.

There is currently no cast or filming information, or a release date yet.
