Axiom Verge has been enjoyed by many owners of Wii U, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. But today BadLand Games and Thomas Happ Games announced that it will now come to Nintendo Switch this August in the form of Axiom Verge: Multiverse Edition.
The new version will come to the previously mentioned systems, as well, with each receiving a physical release – Switch included. It will be priced at €29.99/$29.99/£24.99 for Wii U, PS4, and PS Vita and €39.99/$39.99 for Nintendo Switch.
The Multiverse Edition features a specially commissioned and exclusive 2 Player Productions documentary about Axiom Verge creator Thomas Happ and the making of his game. This title will also feature a copy of the game, a deluxe booklet with developer commentary and art, along with a double-sided poster. It was also revealed that those who pre-order before the August release will receive the game’s CD soundtrack as well. The CD soundtrack will be included with the Nintendo Switch version whether pre-ordered or not.
According to the press announcement, “[The documentary] addresses topics such as the development process of the 5-year solo production, the games that inspired Axiom Verge, and the challenges of balancing his game development career and the need to care for his son with special needs.”
Axiom Verge is a game that is heavily influenced by the gameplay and atmospheric soundtrack of the classic Metroid series. Complete with retro-style graphics, it tells the story of Earth Scientist and protagonist Trace, who after a lab accident, awakens on the mysterious alien world of Sudra. Unsure if he has been beamed to a distant planet or the far future or trapped in an elaborate computer simulation, he embarks on a quest to defeat the ominous being known as Athetos and uncover the secrets of an alien world.
