Batwoman Casts Nick Creegan – New Series Regular

Jul 26, 2021

One week after production of its third season started, Batwoman has added a new series regular to its cast. Nick Creegan, who recently recurred on NBC’s Law & Order: Organized Crime, is joining Batwoman in the role of Marquis Jet.

Here is Marquis’ character description:

“A sexy playboy who grew up in a lavish lifestyle; Marquis is too charming for his own good and wields his power with a ne’er do well attitude. He views life as one big joke, and that sense of recklessness has a tendency to clash horribly with his no-nonsense mother Jada Jet. When he meets Ryan, he sees in her a like-minded young go-getter who like him is just waiting for the right opportunity to make his mark on Gotham.”

Creegan is the latest addition to the show’s cast. Robin Givens and Victoria Cartagena also recently joined the series as regulars. Those additions come on the heels of Dougray Scott and Wallis Day’s exits at the end of season 2.

Renee Montoya

Cartagena will portray a different version of Renee Montoya. Cartagena’s casting came as a surprise because she previously played the same character on Fox’s Gotham. She was described as:

A former GCPD officer who left the force when she could no longer stomach the corruption inside the department. She now runs the “freaks division,” which hasn’t seen a lot of action…until now. Righteous and pragmatic, and LGBTQ+, she’s a woman with a very personal (and mysterious) mission to help clean the streets of Gotham in the right way, by whatever means necessary.

In the comics, Montoya is a detective that served as a love interest to the first Batwoman, Kate Kane. Since Kate is no longer in the series, Montoya could serve as a love interest to Ryan Wilder. Montoya recently appeared as one of the main characters in the 2020 film Birds of Prey, portrayed by Rosie Perez.

An interesting aspect about Montoya is that she eventually becomes a vigilante known as the Question in the comics. While it is too early to tell whether that will happen in the show, her character description might be an indication that it might happen sooner rather than later.

The Jet Family

Givens’ character of Jada Jet is the mother of Creegan’s Marquis Jet. Here is her character description:

A powerful CEO for Jet Industries, Jada isn’t bossy: she’s the boss. Passionate and hard working, a woman who has worked her way through life’s ups and downs to climb her way to the top — all while being extremely protective over her impetuous son. A woman with a deep past that forced her to give up her first-born child, Jada is a woman with a good heart, but will do whatever it takes to protect her family.

The addition of the Jet family to the show will tie into the reveal that Ryan’s biological mother is alive. Jada’s description mentions that she had to give up her first child and, as confirmed by Javicia Leslie on Instagram, Jada is Ryan’s biological mother. To recap, at the end of season 2, Alice told Ryan that her biological mother was still alive. It’ll certainly be very interesting to see how Ryan will react to her mother and brother.

Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy, Nicole Kang, Camrus Johnson, Victoria Cartagena, Nick Creegan and Robin Givens. Season 3 will premiere on October 13, 2021, on the CW.
