‘Birds of Prey’ Director Cathy Yan Reaffirms That The DC Comics Film Is Rated R

Deadline attended the U.S.-China Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles yesterday where Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan spoke. During her brief comments she reaffirmed Margot Robbie’s previous statement that the film would be aiming for an R-rating.

Yan also confirmed onstage today what has already been out there and that is Birds of Prey will be rated R.

Robbie returns as Harley Quinn with newcomers Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Huntress) and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Black Canary) joining the cast.

An actor has yet to be confirmed for the villain role of Black Mask, while there had been rumblings of Sharlto Copley and Ewan McGregor being eyed. Also, a young Asian actress has yet to be hired for the role of Cassandra Cain.

As we previously reported production is expected to begin mid-January in Los Angeles, California.

Warner Bros. has set the film’s release date for February 7th, 2020.
