Brendan Cowell Joins James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ Sequels; Live-Action Filming Takes Place in New Zealand This May

Mar 28, 2019

Brendan Cowell (‘Game of Thrones,’ ‘Press’) is joining the cast of James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ sequels as Mick Scoresby, captain of a large-scale marine hunting vessel on Pandora.

The official ‘Avatar’ Twitter account made the announcement:

Moreover, Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Stephen Lang, and Sigourney Weaver are returning for the upcoming films. Newcomers Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, and Edie Falco have also come aboard. The screenplay of ‘Avatar 2’ is by Cameron, Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno. Cameron will direct all four films.

Live-action filming will take place this May in New Zealand.

Further, ‘Avatar 2’ will release on December 18, 2020 (and by 2020 – they meant 2023). Additionally, the remaining three installments will be released on the same weekend. ‘Avatar 3’ is set for December 17, 2021. After a three-year break, if 2 and 3 succeed, the team will get to work on 4 and 5. If that happens, ‘Avatar 4’ will come out December 20, 2024. Then, ‘Avatar 5’ will be (hopefully) concluding the saga on December 19, 2025.
