Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard and John Kani Join Disney’s ‘The Lion King’

Today, a slew of cast members joined Disney’s upcoming The Lion King remake currently in-production. According to The Hollywood Reporter Luke Cage and A Series of Unfortunate Events star, Alfre Woodard joins the cast as Sarabi the mother of young Simba and wife of the great Mufasa. Captain America: Civil War star John Kani has also joined the cast as the all-wise baboon Rafiki according to The Wrap.

It was also recently revealed that Chiwetel Ejiofor had only entered talks to voice Scar in the upcoming adaption. Last, month we at Omega Underground had heard that the studio was looking at Hugh Jackman for the role. Which was to be announced at D23. It was confirmed the actor was present behind-the-scenes for but the announcement was pulled at the last second. Leading us to believe that a deal had fallen through and the studio has since pursued Ejiofor. However, a deal has yet to be struck…

They joined the previously announced all-star cast of Donald Glover as Simba, John Oliver as Zazu, Billy Eichner & Seth Rogen as Timon & Pumba. With James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa. Beyonce was once rumored for the role of Nala but that has yet to be confirmed. Iron Man and The Jungle Book director Jon Favreau is set to helm the picture.  

The Lion King hits July 19th, 2019
