Chuckles-Focused ‘G.I. Joe’ Spin-Off Taps Writers Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec (‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’)

Another ‘G.I. Joe’ film is in the works, an ensemble spin-off with the character Chuckles, written by Josh Appelbaum & André Nemec. They were onboard the third ‘G.I. Joe’ mainline film ‘G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant’ until it seemingly dissipated, or perhaps became this movie.

Appelbaum and Nemec recently did the story and screenplay of Paramount Animation’s ‘Wonder Park.’ The writing duo also wrote Brad Bird’s ‘Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol’ and both 2014’s ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ and the 2016 sequel, under the subtitle ‘Out of the Shadows.’ Next, they are co-showrunning Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’ series with Jeff Pinkner & Scott Rosenberg (‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,’ ‘Venom’).

Back in April, Full Circle Cinema reported several bits of information regarding this upcoming film.

Their plot details are below:

“G.I. Joe member Philip ‘Chuckles’ Provost is an undercover specialist gone for years until he learns of a grave new threat. Provost tries to convince his bosses that twins Tomax and Xamot, who work for the villain organization COBRA, are after a mysterious device: the ‘Wheel of Time.’ It would allow the villains to travel into the future and obtain weapons capable of destroying the Joes once and for all. However, since his superiors don’t trust him, Provost forms his own squad composed of Helix, Wild Bill, Jinx, and Snake Eyes in order to reach the device before COBRA does.”

Moreover, FCC states that there are three actors on the wishlist for the role of Chuckles. The actors are Tom Hiddleston (‘The Night Manager,’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok’), Alexander Skarsgard (‘Big Little Lies,’ ‘Long Shot’), and Sebastian Stan (‘I, Tonya,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame’).

Meanwhile, Paramount’s origin story/reboot/spin-off film ‘G.I. Joe – Snake Eyes’ is currently in pre-production. Filming will begin October 15th and wrap December 9th in Japan and Vancouver, Canada. This movie will restart the franchise, likely lead into the Appelbaum and Nemec film, and release October 16, 2020.

However, there is no director or release date for the untitled Chuckles film as of now.
