CinemaCon 19: Warner Brothers Panel

Apr 2, 2019

To finish off the second day of CinemaCon 2019 was The Big Show panel for Warner Brothers studios. The studio first looked back at their massive 2018 before looking forward at their current slate of films. They kicked off the program with a look at their DC Comics films set to come out. They mentioned Shazam, Wonder Woman 1984, Birds of Prey, Joker, The Batman, and The Suicide Squad. They even showed us behind-the-scenes featurette of both Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman 1984. Which confirms that Harley Quinn is neither apart of the team not the ‘hero’ of the story. The Wonder Woman footage showed small snippets of footage from the mall scene in the leaked set photos. They then finished with director Todd Phillips of Joker appear on stage to show the first trailer. Which will debut tomorrow online.

They moved on to show trailers for The Sun is Also a Star, The Good Lair, Motherless Brooklyn, The Goldfinch and Super Intelligence. They also showed a full scene from Detective Pikachu which included Justice Smith’s character Tim and Pikachu interrogating Mr. Mime.  They then showed the first trailer for DC Comics and Vertigo graphic novel adaptation for The Kitchen. About 3 mob boss wives who take over Hell’s Kitchen in 1978 from the men.

We finally got an extended first look at Godzilla: King of the Monsters which showed the very first time King Ghidorah rises from arctic depths to face off against Godzilla. Which is truly fantastic and beautiful to view on the big screen Warner Brothers Animation then took over to show a musical number at the animation offices and show very quick concept art glimpses of their upcoming films. These included DC Super Pets, Tom & Jerry and Scooby-Doo!

The presentation then ended the night to showcase New Line Cinema’s horror genre films. They talked about the upcoming installments in The Conjuring universe which included this month’s The Curse of La Llorona, Anabelle Comes Home and the release date of The Conjuring 3. Which will hit theaters September 11th, 2020. Finally, director Andy Muschietti took the stage to reveal the very first footage for IT:  Chapter 2. The footage was also brought to the CinemaCon audience with both the “old and young” Losers club.

Stay tuned the rest of the week for updates from CinemaCon!
