Colin Trevorrow’s ‘Jurassic World 3’ Adds DeWanda Wise to Cast in Lead Role

Oct 19, 2019

DeWanda Wise, who is known for her roles in ‘Shots Fired’ and ‘She’s Gotta Have It,’ has been cast in a leading role alongside Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Mamoudou Athie, Variety reports. All three will appear alongside original ‘Jurassic Park’ leads Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern who are returning to the franchise.

Moreover, original ‘Jurassic World’ director Colin Trevorrow is returning to helm this sequel, taking the reins back from ‘The Impossible’s J.A. Bayona, who did the previous film in the new trilogy. The screenplay is from Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael (‘Pacific Rim: Uprising,’ ‘Battle at Big Rock’), with a story by Trevorrow and ‘Jurassic World’ alum Derek Connolly (‘Kong: Skull Island,’ ‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’).

No word on who DeWanda Wise will be playing, but if it’s being touted as a “leading role” then it will be pretty significant. The plot is likely to focus on the dinosaurs unleashed in the real world, instead of being confined to an island. Trevorrow’s short film ‘The Battle At Big Rock’ explored that concept.

The film’s cast is shaping up nicely, but outside of that nothing much else is known. The only thing that would make the cast better is if Andre Holland and Natalie Martinez reprise their roles from ‘The Battle At Big Rock.’ It will be interesting to see who Wise plays, and what her potential will be for future installments and spinoffs.

Additionally, ‘Jurassic World’ cinematographer John Schwartzman and ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ visual effects supervisor David Vickery are also coming back, with filming set for next spring.

Universal will release the untitled third ‘Jurassic World’ film on June 11, 2021.
