Colin Trevorrow’s ‘Jurassic World 3’ Adds Dichen Lachman to Cast

Feb 19, 2020

There has been a lot of ‘Jurassic World 3’ casting news lately, but most of it has been returning actors to the franchise. The cast will see the return of Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Justice Smith, Daniella Pineda, Jake Johnson, Omar Sy, and fan-favorite trio Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum, as well as newcomers Mamoudou Athie and DeWanda Wise. But there is one more new blood joining too, and it is an exciting one: Dichen Lachman is the latest name to be in the ‘Jurassic’ world.

Deadline reports that Dichen Lachman has joined the production, which is set to start filming soon. Lachmen is perhaps best known for her roles as Daisy’s mother on ‘Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and Reileen Kawahara on Netflix’s ‘Altered Carbon.’ She has also appeared in TNT’s ‘Animal Kingdom,’ The CW’s ‘Supergirl,’ and the ‘Doctor Who’ spinoff ‘Torchwood.’

Lachmen is a powerful actor who brings a memorable performance with her where ever she goes. Thus, ‘Jurassic World 3’ is not short on talent, and hopefully everyone involved gets to shine. Goldblum’s cameo in ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ was superfluous and pointless. (Not to mention, that nearly the entire thing was shown in the trailers leading up to the film.) Lachmen’s powerful screen presence demands a role of substance, so hopefully director Colin Trevorrow can provide that for her.

It is unclear who Lachmen is playing, but it wouldn’t be surprising in the least if she was a villain. She plays that side of things very well, and audiences would be in for a treat if that were the case.

We should learn more about everybody’s place in the story when cameras begin rolling soon. Trevorrow has been teasing preparation on his social media accounts, so that is a good place to keep an eye out for updates.

Moreover, the screenplay is from Trevorrow and Emily Carmichael (‘Pacific Rim: Uprising,’ ‘Battle at Big Rock’), with a story by Trevorrow and ‘Jurassic World’ alum Derek Connolly (‘Kong: Skull Island,’ ‘Pokémon Detective Pikachu’).

Additionally, ‘Jurassic World’ cinematographer John Schwartzman and ‘Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom’ visual effects supervisor David Vickery are also coming back, with ‘Gravity’ editor Mark Sanger and ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ production designer Kevin Jenkins also onboard.

Filming will take place in Vancouver, Canada, from February 24th to March 6th. Also, principal photography will wrap this July, with other shooting locations consisting of Hawaii, Malta, and Pinewood Studios, England.

To hold you over until this forthcoming sequel, Trevorrow co-wrote and directed a short film called ‘Battle At Big Rock.’ It’s worth checking out!

Universal will release the untitled third ‘Jurassic World’ film on June 11, 2021.
