News on Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming Shazam film has been literally silent for over a year. Even back when Geoff Johns and Kevin Smith did their DC Comics special regarding the upcoming film slate of DC films; Shazam was nowhere on the list. All we know is that Dwayne Johnson will “star” in it as the films presumed antagonist Black Adam. Most are assuming it will be based off the hero Shazam and his childhood counterpart Billy Batson. However, that has technically never been confirmed. Now it seem’s the ball is rolling on the film.
Yesterday, longtime Dwayne Johnson producer Hiram Garcia posted he had a meeting with DC Comics regarding Shazam:

Now today Dwyane Johnson also confirmned on Instagram the meeting by suggesting a big announcment should be coming soon. He also goes into the “tonal” shifts DC and Warner Brothers will be doing with their future films:
Had a very cool and strategic meeting with the heads of DC about their entire universe. As a hard core DC fan, to get a real sense of the tonal shifts and developments coming in these future movies has me fired up. Something we, as DC fans have all been waiting for for a very long time. Hope, optimism & FUN. Even when talking about the the most ruthless villain/anti-hero of all time finally coming to life. Prepare yourselves DC Universe.
Now again we don’t know who will actually be playing the title role of Shazam but many have fan-cast actors like Channing Tatum and Mark Walhberg because of their chemistry with Dwayne Johnson in his past films. Others have mentioned lesser names like Blue Mountain State star Alan Ritchson. Regardless…looks like something is cooking at DC.
