Eddie Murphy’s ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ Lands at Netflix

Nov 14, 2019

Eddie Murphy’s return to Netflix may be sooner than you would think!

Following the success of his Netflix original film, ‘Dolemite Is My Name,’ star Murphy and producer Jerry Bruckheimer will be bringing the fourth installment of the ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ franchise to the streamer, with Murphy once again returning to his star making role as the titular cop, Axel Foley.

A follow-up has been in the works since the mid-1990s, with actual progress to make a fourth film in 2006 and 2008, before plans collapsed due to script issues. Back in 2011, a television series was in the works, starring Axel Foley’s son, and Axel as the chief of police in Detroit, but CBS passed on it. ‘Rush Hour’ director Brett Ratner was attached to direct a fourth film, twice, before departing both times. In 2016, directing duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah came onboard, but soon after shifted gears to a different sequel: ‘Bad Boys for Lif3.’

Now, the ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’ announcement comes on the heels of another role Murphy will be reprising: Prince Akeem in the ‘Coming to America’ sequel, titled, obviously, ‘Coming 2 America.’ Director Craig Brewer was brought onto ‘Coming 2 America’ after working with Murphy on ‘Dolemite Is My Name.’

Maybe Brewer will go for a threepeat and helm another long-gestating Eddie Murphy sequel?

We’ll have to wait and see, as there is no word yet on directors or cast members, but news should follow soon.
