GWW has obtained information that a third Angry Birds movie is currently in development at Sony, with an expected production window of 2021. There isn’t very much information available beyond that, but considering the successes of the previous two installments this shouldn’t come to much of a surprise.
The Angry Birds Movie released to mixed reviews in 2016, but was a surprise hit at the box-office with a take of over $350m worldwide on a $73m budget. Its sequel was released in 2019 to softer box-office, but stronger reviews; currently holding the title of the second best reviewed video game adaptation on Rotten Tomatoes.
Despite the lower box office performance of Angry Birds 2, the film’s characters continue to garner attention.
