Mar 13, 2019

Exclusive: Howard Deutch is set to direct an adaptation of Russel Hill’s novel ‘Lucy Boomer’ through his company HRD Productions. Diana Phillips is also on board to produce through Rimsky Productions. Sources tell us that filming is set to begin this summer in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The book of the same name follows a divorced man, named Jack Rabbit, who lives a lonely, boring life. He scrapes by with his three teaching jobs at community colleges in the LA area. His life suddenly takes a turn when Lucy Boomer, a 93-year old woman who was the secretary to five presidents, promises him her journals if he drives her to Iowa. Along the way, they pick up Ahna, an easy-going hitchhiker who helps care for Lucy. Along the way, Lucy tells them stories from her past, teaching them that there is more to life if they take action rather than do nothing.

Deutch previously directed the movies ‘Pretty In Pink’, ‘The Great Outdoors’, and ‘My Best Friend’s Girl’. He has also worked on TV shows such as ‘Empire’, ‘Young Sheldon’, and ‘Tales From The Crypt.’

‘Lucy Boomer’ does not yet have a release date.
