EXCLUSIVE: ‘Straight Talk’ series from Rashida Jones goes to Peacock

Oct 14, 2020

The GWW has new information on a television series being produced for PEACOCK, the Universal Studio’s streaming services.

According to source documents, ‘Straight Talk’ is set to be directed as a well as produced by none other than Rashida Jones. The series is set to be written by Kara Brown. Big name actress Jada Pinkett Smith is in current negotiations to star in the titular role as Gayle Sanders. The opposing role to Jada is currently open however casting is looking for another female lead in the mid 20-30s of African-American/Puerto Rican descent.

The series is described as following: Anxious to break into television news, ISABEL RAMOS is appalled when she is offered a job as assistant to arch conservative TV anchor GAYLE SANDERS. Like Isabel, Gayle is a woman of color–but unlike Isabel, she’s an arch-conservative who radically differs from Isabel politically, personally and any other way you could think of. Could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship?…

If the casting call is any indication of the series, it appears to be a comedy rivalry series. Our documents currently call for a half hour Pilot with a fixed script.
