Feb 25, 2019

Recently, Netflix picked up Gina Prince-Bythewood’s female ensemble action movie ‘The Old Guard.’ Now, we at Omega Underground are able to report that filming will commence in Europe in mid-May. Locations include the United Kingdom, as well as possibly Paris and Morocco, as per our previous report.

The film is based on the comic books by Greg Rucka, who also wrote the screenplay. The cast, so far, comprises of Charlize Theron (‘Mad Max: Fury Road’) and KiKi Layne (‘If Beale Street Could Talk’).

The premise is below:

“The story of a small covert group of immortal mercenaries who must fight to keep their team together when they discover the existence of a new immortal and their extraordinary abilities are exposed.”

We also made the report on Prince-Bythewood directing last July.

Prince-Bythewood recently directed the pilot of the Marvel series ‘Cloak & Dagger.’ Her past films include ‘The Secret Life of Bees’ and ‘Beyond The Lights.’ She will also direct and co-write (with Roxane Gay) Fox Searchlight’s ‘An Untamed State.’

Further, thanks to HN Entertainment, we know production designer Paul Kirby is part of the crew. Kirby’s credits include ‘Captain Phillips,’ ‘Kingsman: The Secret Service,’ ‘Jason Bourne,’ Death Wish,’ and the upcoming ‘Hellboy.’

However, Netflix has yet to give the film a release date.
