Star Command… Come In Star Command!!

Yes, that’s right. The first teaser trailer for 2022’s Disney/Pixar film Lightyear has been released as we’ve got it here!

The movie, currently slated for a June 17th 2022 release, is the story of the fictional Buzz Lightyear that is the inspiration for the toy that we’ve known for almost three decades. The story looks like it will go into the origin of the character and his beginning adventures with Star Command. Not many details are released currently besides the release date and that Marvel superstar Chris Evans will be voicing the titular character. According to details on D23, the film will show how “a young test pilot became the ultimate Space Ranger” and will have the feel of late 70’s/early 80’s sci-fi movies.

After watching the trailer a few times, I’ve got some feelings and thoughts for the project. It seems like it’ll be reminiscent of those sci-fi films of old and I feel like like could actually be the start of even more. I never thought that I’d need this in my life and now that it’s on the horizon, I realize that I do. The movie could either be more of the fictional tale of Buzz or it could also be more of a robust, adult story of exploration and humanity akin to Star Trek. Seeing things like the use of the slingshot maneuver and the larger, round vessel (probably for colonization) may speak to humankind exploring space for our continued existence.

More on Lightyear as it is released.
