Forest Whitaker’s Gangster Series ‘Godfather of Harlem’ Shoots September-February In NYC

American Crime’s John Ridley was recently set to direct a crime series starring Forest Whitaker focused on the real Harlem gangsters of the early 1960’s for Epix titled Godfather of Harlem. The series will have 10-episodes and will focus on true-life Harlem gangster Bumpy Johnson, played by Whitaker.

Omega Underground has learned the period gangster series is set to begin filming on September 12th in New York City and is expected to finish on February 13th.

After spending a decade in prison at the famed Alcatraz, veteran Harlem gangster Bumpy Johnson returns home to find Italian mobster Vincent Gigante is stepping up shop in his territory leading to a potential mob war.

Godfather of Harlem will air on Epix in 2019.
