Fox Releases Final Trailer for Josh Trank’s FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot

Jul 14, 2015

Fox has just a few more weeks to go before they release the Josh Trank directed reboot, Fantastic Four, based on Marvel’s First Family, so it means it’s time to enter crunch mode with the marketing. This past weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Fox brought their final trailer for the film, and now the studio has brought it online as well. While the first two trailers were more mysterious and scientific in nature, the new trailer is more about the film’s action, primarily the third act brawl with Doctor Doom.

In fact, the trailer seems like it’s a mashup of everything they have left in them to try and turn the film’s buzz around, in hope that they can get fans to give the film a chance. With the unfortunate rumors swirling around the project and its director, Josh Trank, Fantastic Four has faced an uphill battle with fans that hasn’t let up yet. Will this new trailer be enough to turn the tide?

The trailer is probably the best put together of the three, but something still feels off about the project. I’m not sure what it is, but it seems like they’ve been trying to sell us on a lot of the same footage, but adding action, hoping to convince people it won’t just a more contemplative film. That also comes into play with Fox really hoping this film takes off, because rumors continue to swirl that the studio wants to crossover this franchise with their X-Men films, and if this film doesn’t deliver for them, that won’t be able to happen.

It really feels like it could have a really big third act, and I certainly hope the film doesn’t face a critical and commercial backlash that many are assuming it will. The Fantastic Four are some of Marvel’s strongest characters, and they deserve a film that is worthy of what has made them so iconic. I can only hope that the marketing team is just unsure how to sell Trank’s film, and there really is something special here, because he very much impressed me with Chronicle, and I’m hoping the same magic he brought to that will be found here.

We’ll fine out soon enough though, as Fantastic Four, which stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, and Tim Blake Nelson, opens on August 7, 2015.

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
