Fox’s Big Screen Alita: Battle Angel Boasts Oscar Winning Talent
With the upcoming release of the live action version of the beloved anime Ghost in the Shell, studios are looking to adapt similar properties into big budget potential franchise epics. The latest adaptation has attracted Oscar-winning talent both behind and in front of the screen.
Oscar-winning Director James Cameron (Titanic/ Avatar) is Executive Producing a big screen version of the manga Alita: Battle Angel. The film is currently in production with director Robert Rodriquez (Sin City/ Machete) at the helm.
The film boasts some impressive talent on-screen as well with Rosa Salazar (Maze Runner: The Scorch Trails) as the lead alongside Oscar winner Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained), Oscar Nominee Jackie Earl Haley (Watchmen), Ed Skrein (Deadpool) and this years Academy Awards Best Actor nominee Mahershala Ali (Moonlight).
The Hollywood Reporter is also reporting that Oscar Winner Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind) has been cast in the film as one of its villains. This increasingly impressive cast could be the beginning of a new series of films for Fox with Cameron looking to develop the first four issues of the manga.
Alita: Battle Angel tells the story of a cyborg found in a scrapyard by a scientist in the 26th century. Alita (Salazar) has no memory of her past, but possesses deadly skills in combat. She eventually becomes a bounty hunter to make ends meet while she works to uncover the mystery of her past.
The movie is currently filming right now with an expected release date of July 20, 2018.
