As a fan of the original film trilogy I was so excited to hear that a television series was being developed that picks up 30 years later from where the story left off. Of course, the iconic Bruce Campbell is back in what is probably his best known role as Ash Williams.
From the latest teaser, it looks like he’s back in full force, chainsaw hand and all. Groovy. IMDB gives this synopsis:
Ash has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity and the terrors of the Evil Dead until a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind and Ash becomes mankind’s only hope.
Sounds like our beloved hero/lothario can’t catch a break. Joining him on his adventures this time around is Lucy Lawless as Ruby, a mysterious figure who blames Ash for the Deadite outbreak. And he won’t be fighting alone this time around. Helping him fight the Deadite invasion is Ray Santiago (Meet The Fockers, In Time) who plays Pablo Simon Bolivar who becomes Ash’s sidekick. Also joining the team is Dana Delorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, a wild child who’s reluctant to join the battle but finds herself drawn into it.
Due to premier on Starz this fall (no set date announced yet), the series is currently filming in New Zealand. Helming the project are executive producers Sam Raimi & Rob Tapert, the minds behind the original trilogy, with Sam directing the first episode.
