A visually-arresting 3-part graphic novel series starring a new superheroine inspired by Hindu mythology has 2 weeks left to meet its funding goal on Indiegogo
Blood Queen Volume 1 is a supernatural crime thriller graphic novel that suspensefully chronicles the origin of its superheroine, divinely inspired by Hindu mythology. The main character is introduced as Religious Iconography PhD student, Riya Maalik, but is she the Blood Queen? Only until Volume 1’s release will readers find out.
Creator/Writer Alpa Banker has teamed up with Illustrator Laura Ferguson to deliver what she describes as a “unique, visual experience” inspired by Frank Miller’s 300. She describes the story as similar to Dark Knight in tone and Thor in its borrowing from religious mythology. Her protagonist is inspired by such “badass” female heroes as Mulan, Salt, and Xena Warrior Princess in their presentation as three-dimensional, strong, and combat-savvy yet feminine women whose fan base includes both genders.
Banker offers this suspenseful teaser which she wrote, scored, and directed to excite fans and build anticipation:
