‘Hobbs & Shaw’s David Leitch Set to Direct Universal’s ‘Kung Fu’ Remake

Jan 22, 2020

Universal Pictures is developing a contemporary action film remake of the TV series ‘Kung Fu.’ David Leitch is currently attached to direct the project.

Leitch is a director who’s made his name with martial arts-heavy action films. He recently helmed another Universal film: ‘Hobbs & Shaw,’ the ‘Fast & Furious’ spin-off. He started his directing career with the first ‘John Wick’ movie, alongside frequent collaborator Chad Stahelski. Other credits include the Marvel film ‘Deadpool 2′ and Focus Features’ ‘Atomic Blonde.’

‘Kung Fu,’ which starred David Carradine, told an Old West story of a martial arts expert who fled China after his master was murdered. While he practiced a creed of nonviolence, he would still resort to his old skills whenever provoked to action.

This has no connection to the CW series that is in the works.

No screenwriters or cast have yet been announced. However, more news will be coming soon, as the search for a scribe is underway.
