‘In The Fade’s Faith Akin To Direct A Remake of Stephen King’s ‘Firestarter’ For Blumhouse/Universal

Variety reports that In The Fade director Faith Akin has joined the Firestarter remake which is setup at Blumhouse and Universal. The film is based on the Stephen King novel which originally starred a young Drew Barrymore and was a direct influence on Stranger Things’ Eleven.

A young girl who develops pyrokinetic abilities and is abducted by a secret government agency that wants to harness her powerful gift as a weapon.

Other upcoming King film adaptations include IT: Chapter 2, Pet Sematary, and Doctor Sleep [a sequel to The Shining].

Universal has yet to give the film a release date and it’s unknown when filming will begin.
