Monster Hunter Rise

Published by: Capcom
Developed by: Capcom
Released on: March 26, 2021

I’ll cut to the chase, Monster Hunter Rise is my favorite game of 2021. I have played over 30 games this year and none of them compare to this masterpiece. I love everything this game has to offer. What made this Switch title so special to me were those experiences I got to share with my brother and cousin as we hunted these incredible monsters.  There were times where we fought a monster for 30 minutes only to be defeated by it and have to start all over. These moments of frustration, excitement, and revenge, are moments that I’ll never forget.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart

Developed by: Insomniac Games
Published by: Sony Interactive Entertainment
Released on:
June 11, 2021

Ratchet and clank Rift Apart is the first game in this generation that feels truly next gen. While this is not the best game in the series, is still a must play game for any fan. Ratchet and Clank is known for its weapons and Rift Apart delivers on that end. The campaign felt short but again is one that I do believe you need to experience for yourself.  If you are lucky enough to own a PlayStation 5, go and play Ratchet and Clank Rift apart and it may end up being in your top games of this year too.

Death’s Door

Published by: Devolver Digital
Developed by: Acid Nerve
Released on: July 20, 2021

As I said in my review, every year there is an indie game that comes and steals my heart, this year that game was Death’s Door. I don’t know if it was the Zelda or Dark Souls gameplay comparisons that drew me to this game or the beautiful music that this game has. Maybe it was its art style followed by smart writing that captivated me. I think it was all of the above. Death’s Door is one of the best Indies of 2021 and it’s one that you should definitely play.

Death’s Door | Devolver Digital – $19.99

Metroid Dread

Published by: Nintendo
Developed by: Mercury Steam
Released on: October 8, 2021

Metroid Dread took me back to the days where I used to carry my Gameboy Advance just so that I could continue to play Metroid Fusion. Metroid Dread is one of the best Nintendo Switch titles that I have ever played. If you like challenges, if you like those ah-ha moments, Metroid Dread is just the game for you. This game has some amazing boss fights and some amazing moments of discovery. I do recommend one thing, don’t play this with your joy cons as you may just break them trying to pull some of the more complicated moves.

Metroid Dread | Nintendo – $59.99

Scarlet Nexus

Published by: Bandai Namco
Developed by: Tose
Released on: June 24, 2021

Scarlet Nexus is a game that I had zero knowledge of when I purchased it, but it’s a game that quickly blew me away. If you are a fan of action packed RPGs, or a fan of anime, you need to try Scarlet Nexus. This game plays like a dream. Not only does it have some really great gameplay but Scarlet Nexus also has really cool characters and story arcs. I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed this game and to me is the biggest surprise of 2021. Play this game, I promise you won’t regret it.
