I’ve tested the Kiwi Ears Canta ($89 USD) on my MSI Claw A8 combined with the Kiwi Ears Allegro Pro DAC as well as directly into my Steam Deck, Claw A8 and MacBook Pro. It’s important to note the Kiwi Ears Allegro Pro DAC, which supports PCM Up To 32bit/384kHz DSD128/DSD64. This is a big jump over many devices that cap at 24bit/48Khz.

The Kiwi Ears Canta ($89.00 USD) doesn’t rely on traditional balanced armature drivers. Instead, Kiwi Ears has loaded the Canta with a hybrid configuration: one 10mm dynamic driver dedicated to anchoring the low-end, and two custom micro planar magnetic drivers to handle the mids and highs. This is great for vocal-centric tones and if you want to hear a wide range of sounds.

Audio Performance Breakdown

The Kiwi Ears Canta delivers a cohesive and highly resolving sound signature by dividing duties perfectly across its hybrid drivers. Its 10mm dynamic driver anchors the sound with a punchy, tactile, and well-controlled bass that provides a physical rumble for low-frequency effects without muddying other frequencies. Powered by clean amplification, the dual planar drivers work alongside the dynamic driver to push out a broad, incredibly clear midrange where vocals feel intimate and packed with micro-detail. The planars also handle the high frequencies, giving the treble a lightning-fast, sparkly, and airy quality that resolves fine details beautifully while avoiding the harsh, metallic sibilance common in traditional balanced armature setups.

Design, Fit, and Comfort

The Canta features incredibly lightweight, 5.6g resin shells that are ergonomically shaped to sit flush inside the ear, providing excellent passive noise isolation that easily blocks out the MSI Claw A8’s fan noise during heavy gaming loads. While the included 2-pin 3.5mm stock cable gets the job done, swapping it out for a 4.4mm balanced cable is highly recommended. Upgrading to a balanced connection allows you to plug directly into the Allegro Pro’s balanced port, fully unleashing the dynamic range and power scaling these hybrid monitors are capable of.
