Legendary’s ‘Dune’ Reboot Finds Villain In Stellan Skarsgard

Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ reboot has enlisted Stellan Skarsgard to play the villainous Baron Harkonnen.

Skarsgard is joining Timothee Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, and Dave Bautista. The movie, based on the book by Frank Herbert, chronicles the tale of Paul Atreides as he attempts to restore his family’s authority over a planet that provides a rare natural resource. During that process, he ends up developing special abilities and becoming the messiah of Arrakis while waging a massive war against a competing family that killed his father Duke Leto Atreides.

Harkonnen is the descendant of the previous ruling family and seeks to take over once again. Bautista will play his nephew, the “Beast” Rabban.

Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, and Eric Roth penned the script, with Villeneuve also directing. The pic is set to begin production this spring in Budapest and Jordan. No release date has been set.
