Lucasfilm Calls ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ The Final Installment of The Skywalker Saga

Jul 29, 2018

In the official press release for Star Wars: Episode IX, Lucasfilm reveals that the film will be the end of the Skywalker saga.

J.J. Abrams returns to direct the final installment of the Skywalker saga. Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio.

I think people are taking this to mean it is the end of the Rey saga, but as it looks like she’s not a Skywalker, despite fan speculation. What it really sounds like is that Leia and Ben Solo might not be getting a happy ending.

I guess we’ll find out next year.

Returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell, who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.

Filming begins on August 1st with the release date set for December 20th, 2019.
