Lucasfilm Fires Gina Carano

Feb 12, 2021

If you’ve been following the story of Gina Carano and her controversial social media presence then you may have seen this coming. Lucasfilm has officially announced Ms. Carano will no longer be employed by the company and has completely cut ties with The Mandalorian actress.

A Lucasfilm spokesperson sent the following statue to io9 who first broke the story.

“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

The firing was prompted after fan outcry and a trending hashtag, #FireGinaCarano which started because the actress had shared a culturally insensitive story on her Instragram which tried to compare the plight of Jewish people in Nazi Germany to United States’ conservatives.

Carano quickly deleted the post but the damage had been done and this was said to be the last straw for Disney as they were looking to get rid of the actress for months due to her controversial stances on COVID-19 and some hate fueled comments disparaging the trans community while also liking posts that denounced the Black Lives Matter movement.

Carano was expected to return to the Star Wars universe as Cara Dune in the upcoming spin-off series Rangers of the New Republic but that appears to no longer be happening and it will be interesting to see how Lucasfilm handles her replacement.

Carano has now announced plans to star in a film produced by Ben Shapiro and the Daily Wire.
