Lucky Devil #2

“Lucky Devil” is back! The second issue of the Dark Horse miniseries is finally out. In the first issue we were introduced to Stanley a man who got supernatural powers after being possessed by a demon. Now, he uses his powers to create a cult that worships him.

“Lucky Devil” #2 continues to do an amazing job of developing its main character, Stanley, who is such a complex and interesting character. It’s great seeing Cullen Bunn’s work on the character. Even though it’s only been two issues, Bunn is already able to showcase so many different sides of Stanley. It’s clear that he’s a coward who used his powers to do things he didn’t believe he was capable of. Now after experiencing all that power he wants more. And power isn’t enough for him anymore. He wants followers and worshipers.

While the first issue focused on introducing Stanley and his motivations, this one takes some time to introduce the main storyline of the book, while still showing us different sides of Stanley. Bunn manages to perfectly balance the story developments as well as Stanley’s own development. It’s refreshing to see that he is able to balance that, as some writers end up prioritizing one over the other sometimes.

Fran Galan’s artwork continues to amaze me. Galan and El Torres’ collaborative work is incredible. It is so unique and it really adds to Bunn’s storytelling. This trio is a great team and their synergy is one of the most interesting aspects of the book and makes it work even better.

The first issue was already a great start to the story, but this one makes this miniseries a must-read. I’m super excited to see what will happen on the next issues, especially since so many interesting storylines were introduced in this issue.
