Marvel Studios’ ‘The Eternals’ Has Kumail Nanjiani in Talks to Star; Angelina Jolie in Talks to Play Sersi

The upcoming Marvel Studios film ‘The Eternals’ already has its second casting in the works, with Kumail Nanjiani in talks to star. However, his character is under wraps, but it could be Makkari.

Nanjiani is popular for his role in the HBO series ‘Silicon Valley.’ His career really took off with the Academy Award nominated film ‘The Big Sick.’ This year, he has Sony’s ‘Men in Black: International,’ releasing June 14th, and 20th Century Fox’s ‘Stuber,’ releasing July 12th. He also has the upcoming Apple TV+ series ‘Little America,’ which is currently filming.

Angelina Jolie (‘Maleficent’) will play Sersi, a more outgoing Eternal who has not been afraid to move amongst humankind.

Some of the premise, given by The Hollywood Reporter, is below:

“One aspect to the story involves the love story between Ikaris, a man fueled by cosmic energy, and Sersi (Jolie), who relishes moving amongst humans.”

Meanwhile, according to That Hashtag Show, Marvel Studios is also looking to cast an openly gay male actor for a lead role. The studio is searching for an actor, 30-49, who “physically looks like a superhero.” While open to actors of all ethnicity, they would prefer the role to go to an openly gay actor.

This role will mark the first time Marvel Studios will feature an openly gay male as a lead. This character will have a major presence in the film alongside the other leads: Sersi, Ikaris and “Piper.”

The identity of the role is unknown, but according to the recent rumor, the character is Hercules.

Moreover, Chloé Zhao (‘The Rider’) will be directing, while the screenplay is from Matthew K. Firpo & Ryan Firpo (‘Ruin’).

Also, for a different role, Zhao has interest in casting Cameron Britton (‘Mindhunter,’ ‘The Umbrella Academy’). Additionally, Tomasz Kot (‘Cold War’) could nab a supporting role in the film, one that requires an imposing physical presence. However, no offers have been made to either of these actors as of now.

Further, filming will begin in the United Kingdom on September 16th, and wrap sometime in January 2020.

There is currently no release date yet, but it will most likely claim the November 6, 2020 slot.
