Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell Reportedly Have Taken Lead Roles In ‘Birds of Prey’

A new report from Variety says that actresses Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Fargo, Scott Pilgrim) and Jurnee Smollett-Bell (Underground) have been tapped by Warner Bros. and director Cathy Yan as Margot Robbie’s co-stars in Birds of Prey.

Winstead and Smollett-Bell will play DC Comics heroines Huntress and Black Canary respectively.

Sources tell Variety that Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Jurnee Smollett-Bell have been tapped to join Robbie in the comic-book spinoff, with Winstead playing Huntress and Smollett-Bell portraying Black Canary.

THR was the first to break the news that the two actresses tested for roles.

Filming is set to begin mid-January in Los Angeles, as we’ve previously reported.

Warner Bros. recently gave the film the release date of February 7th, 2020. Which happens to be my birthday.
