Warner Bros. is kicking their long-gestating ‘Batman’ solo film into the next gear, tapping cinematographer Greig Fraser. Matt Reeves, the helmer of the ‘Dawn’ and ‘War’ installments in ‘Planet of the Apes’ franchise, serves as both writer and director.
Fraser will be reuniting with Reeves on this film, as the two did the 2010 remake ‘Let Me In.’ His work as cinematographer will add a lot of clout to the production, as he was nominated for an Academy Award for 2016’s ‘Lion.’ Other credits include Kathryn Bigelow’s ‘Zero Dark Thirty,’ Gareth Edwards’ ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ and Adam McKay’s ‘Vice.’ He is currently filming Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ reboot, releasing November 20, 2020.
Also, Fraser gave a comment regarding his involvement in the upcoming DC film:
“It’s great to be working with Matt again. The Batman franchise is iconic and its a privilege to now be able to visualize it in my own way. Especially with the cumulative creative potential of all the talent and technicians we have in front of and behind the camera.”
Thus, The Hollywood Reporter has officially cleared the air on who will serve as director of photography, after Discussing Film reported that Robert Richardson (‘Django Unchained,’ ‘The Hateful Eight’) was onboard the film.
Moreover, this film will feature a younger Batman, as this is a prequel film set 20 years ago in the DCEU. Due to this, Ben Affleck will not be reprising the role in this film. He previously portrayed the character in ‘Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ ‘Suicide Squad,’ and ‘Justice League.’
Robert Pattinson (‘Good Time,’ ‘High Life’) will take on this latest iteration of the Dark Knight, and could be joined by actress Vanessa Kirby (‘The Crown,’ ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’). Kirby is on the radar to play Catwoman.
Additionally, a rogues gallery of villains, including Catwoman, will be featured. Characters that will appear, so far, comprise of The Penguin, The Riddler, Firefly, Two-Face, and Mad Hatter. Casting is already underway, so very soon we will find out which actors are playing Catwoman and Penguin in particular.
Further, filming is aiming to begin January 13, 2020 in London, England.
‘The Batman’ will release on June 25, 2021.
