Although fans have a little less than two more years before the next Mission: Impossible film hits theaters, a new addition to the cast has been revealed! One thing to note is that McQuarrie will be filming the seventh and eighth Mission: Impossible films back to back, with the former set to arrive in theaters on July 23, 2021, while the eighth installment is currently scheduled to be released on August 5, 2022. So far Atwell has only been confirmed to appear in the seventh film, but considering that production schedule, perhaps her character will also appear in the eighth film as well?

Over the past decade, McQuarrie has come to define himself as the most defining author of the Mission: Impossible franchise aside from Cruise himself, having initially provided an uncredited rewrite for the script of 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol and then going on to write and direct both 2015’s Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and 2018’s Mission: Impossible – Fallout. By the time the eighth film arrives in theaters Summer 2022, McQuarrie will have directed half of the entries in the franchise.
