The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers disbanded after defeating their biggest nemeses, Rita Repulsa and Lord Zedd. Twenty-two years later, Kimberly, Zack, and Billy meet up to pay their respects to Trini, who passed away. While catching up, Kimberly learns she has kept her promise not to use the Morphin Grid. Upon returning home, Kimberly receives an unexpected visitor.

MMPR: The Return is written by the former Pink Ranger, Amy Jo Johnson, and Matt Hotson. The story provides a basic setup and introduction to bring readers up to date on the events of the past twenty-two years. Kimberly is the main focus of the series, with glimpses into the current and past work of the other Rangers.

The artwork maintains a basic and simple style to match the issue’s introductory nature. While it effectively conveys heated moments in dialogues, there isn’t much action depicted outside of these moments. However, the character designs for the aged-up Rangers are the weakest aspect of the artwork.

Overall, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return is geared towards die-hard fans. The story and art maintain a basic and straightforward approach. However, the lack of a recap of previous events may alienate new fans unfamiliar with the series’ continuity.

Having one of the original Rangers as a writer for the series may seem like a gimmick. Additionally, the multiple storylines featured so far are becoming somewhat convoluted, and the pacing exacerbates this issue.

Hopefully, future issues will iron out these details and delve into what Kimberly and some of the other Rangers have been doing during their time away. Until then, it will be intriguing to see how it all unfolds.
