Misha Green Takes over as Writer/Director on ‘Tomb Raider’ Film

Jan 27, 2021

MGM Films finds a new writer for its Tomb Raider film adaptation as Lovecraft Country’s Misha Green takes over writing and directing duties. Deadline reports Green will take over duties from Ben Wheatley who moved off the project likely to focus on The Meg 2. It appears they are starting from scratch as Weatley script isn’t being used while Green is set to write the film herself.

Alicia Vikander is still set to reprise her role as Lara Croft as her story continues in the sequel. The first film didn’t exactly blow the doors off the box office so hopefully Green can bring a fresh sensibility to the franchise that made her previous venture at HBO, Lovecraft Country a hit.

Currently MGM with the help of United Artists and WB are still looking to release the film theatrically and are aiming for a more impressive box office draw than the $275 million the first installment brought in.

Tomb Raider is based on the hit video game from studio Crystal Dynamics which follows adventurer Lara Croft as she strives to make a name for herself in the search of rare and important historical treasures.
