This is what a revolution looks like, chaos, paranoia, and a ticking clock of self destruction; as depicted in the trailer for Mr Robot season two. Elliot Alderson (Rami Malek) continues to battle himself as Mr Robot (Christian Slater) demands that his son step up as an fsociety leader following the E-Corp hack. According to our very own President Barak Obama the world is holding Tyrell Wellick (Martin Wallstrom) responsible for the hack, but we haven’t seen him since the end of “m1rr0r1ng.qt” (1×9). During the hiatus many viewers have gone a bit theory crazy, speculating about out what happened between Elliott and Tyrell those three days prior to the hack, “You not knowing what you did, or didn’t do…our infinite loop of insanity.”
This is a really nice preview for the road ahead, as the trailer fully embraces the series’ voice with haunting visuals, precise dialogue wordplay, and the cynical 90s tone. Both Darlene (Carly Chaikin) and Angela (Portia Doubleday) return alongside Elliot, all stumbling upon the realization that this game isn’t over. I have a feeling that early on, Darlene will pitch an fsociety second-act hack, even though the FBI is currently hunting them down. Agent Dipierro (Grace Gummer) is shown making her way through the infamous alleyway outside of fosciety’s secret carnival hideout. On a more disturbing note she finds herself opening the door to the very room where all of those fosciety recordings were shot. Meanwhile, Angela is shown swallowing bitter truths about financial success, all curtesy of Phillip Price (Michael Cristofer), “I’m sorry my dear, this is all in your head.” Well, that’s not necessarily true since Elliot is our narrator, so everything is based on his perspective; we’re his imaginary friends after all.
What happens when everyone, including your imaginary friend(s) turn on you? This is the question, following those final moments in the trailer as Mr Robot pulls the trigger on a gun pointed directly at Elliot’s head. “Elliot can’t escape him, and Mr Robot doesn’t want to leave. It’s a conflict, but it’s actually more of an impasse that they somehow have to negotiate,” explains Sam Esmail during an interview with EW. I am sure that Krista (Gloria Reuben) would be willing to sit down with both Elliot and Mr Robot for some family counseling, Darlene might want to go too. I can’t wait for a few more family secrets to be revealed. The highly-anticipated USA Mr Robot season two will premiere on July 13th, did you see the men in suits?
