Robert Downey Jr.’s ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ Enlists Director Dexter Fletcher (‘Rocketman’)

Jul 11, 2019

The long-gestating sequel ‘Sherlock Holmes 3’ now has a director: Dexter Fletcher.

Fletcher recently helmed the Elton John “musical fantasy” film ‘Rocketman.’ Previously, he directed ‘Eddie the Eagle,’ also starring Taron Egerton. He also took over the remainder of principal photography for the Academy Award winning Freddie Mercury biopic ‘Bohemian Rhapsody.’

Meanwhile, both Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law will be reprising their roles, as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson respectfully.

The screenplay is from Chris Brancato, the creator of ‘Narcos’ and ‘Narcos: Mexico,’ as well as a writer on NBC’s ‘Hannibal.

Additionally, the setting seems to be San Francisco, California in the Old West era.

Further, filming could begin January 2020.

Warner Bros. will release the film on December 21, 2021.
