Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark Joins ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’

Robert Downey Jr. has been rumored for months to have a potential role as Tony Stark in Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, along with other possible Avengers characters showing-up.

This stemming from the deal Sony and Marvel put together for Spider-Man to join the MCU and Captain America: Civil War, in exchange Avengers character could appear in his solo films.

Variety has word that Robert has closed his deal to play Tony Stark in the solo Spider-Man film, Marvel hasn’t made this official, but expect should be announced soon after this trade report.

They aren’t mentioning how he would be featured in the film, but some have suggested that Tony would be a mentor of sorts to Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. Not unlike his relationship with Harley in Iron Man 3.

The rest of the cast includes Marisa Tomei, Zendaya, Tony Revolori and Laura Harrier.

Michael Keaton (Spotlight, Birdman, Batman) has been linked for a potential unnamed villain, as there are said to be multiple in the film it’s hard assume which one it could be.

There has been some hints that Chris Evans‘ Captain America could also play a role in the film.

Production takes place this summer in Atlanta, Georgia with a release date slatted for July 7th, 2017.
